Seeing Nokia, Jolla and HERE all together on MWC might seem like 2014, but it is not like that. All three are separate companies nowadays and Mobile World Congress is now connecting them all together besides the history. The good thing is that MWC is finally back after two years of constant cancellations by all the major tech companies due to the SARS CoV-2 pandemic. The big change with this years congress is the official sponsor which is HONOR, and not Huawei. I remember back in 2019 how I took my GSMA credentials and good folks at Nokia replaced the official lanyard with a Nokia one :).
Nokia will be in Hall three where the Finns have rented three stands. There will be many speakers from Nokia present, and Nokia’s CEO Pekka Lundmark will be telling about a green industry which is quite a popular topic today.
Nokia Mobile, or HMD Global if you like, still haven’t booked a space in Barcelona although the startup has been sending Barcelona taste boxes to media, and one came to our Mr Nokia from the local PR agency in Dubai. While Nokia Mobile is getting ready to announce some more devices, which are hinted with the latest BT certificates, there is a chance of not seeing them at MWC. maybe there will be a space for Nokia branded devices at the Nokia booth as seen in 2019.
Jolla is going to be at MWC2022, and the creators of Sailfish OS, which is an evolved version of Nokia’s MeeGo, will be showing their unique AppSupport solution for Linux platforms. These platforms are used in the automotive industry on modern digital car displays, and I’m also interested to see Jolla’s solutions. In case you are at MWC, you can find Jolla in Hall 7, stand 7G23.
HERE, the creator of HERE WeGo maps we all used regularly with Nokia Symbian and Lumia devices and even now on Android. are also in Barcelona. However, they will be using the virtual stand as shown on the MWC page.
Barcelona mobile congress is a large event where almost all the main smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Honor, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei are showing their best devices. I haven’t been following the announcements of other manufacturers, but their latest China announcements might get announced globally at MWC2022.
The show starts in 8 days, and it will be fun seeing what new things is mobile industry bringing.
