April has been quite a busy month with several phones launches and it’s time we shift our focus to May 2021 and see what it has in store for us. There are many interesting launches planned in May, such as the Pixel 5a, ZenFone 8 series, iQOO Z3, Realme X7 Max, Mi Mix Fold, POCO F3 GT, Moto G100, among others. We will also be witnessing budget offerings such as the Redmi Note 10S, Samsung Galaxy M32, OPPO K9, Realme 8 Pro 5G, and POCO M3 Pro. Let’s take a look at some of the smartphones expected to launch in May 2021.

Phones expected in May 2021

Realme 8 Pro 5G

Realme 8 Pro 5G model could have identical specifications as the 4G counterpart, except for a 5G-enabled chipset. It may come with a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with punch-hole cutout, 60Hz/90Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits maximum brightness. It could be powered by a 5G-ready Qualcomm or MediaTek chipset. It could have a quad-camera setup at the back, with a 108MP primary camera, an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. A 4,500mAh battery with 50W fast charging support could fuel the phone.

Realme X7 Max

Realme X7 Max was expected to launch in India on May 4th, but the company decided to postpone the event due to the Covid wave. The phone is believed to be a rebrand of the Realme GT Neo. To recall, the Realme GT Neo flaunts a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and corner punch-hole camera. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC paired up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage that is further expandable via a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 11-based Realme UI 2.0 custom skin on top and packs a 4,500mAh battery with 50W fast-charging support Realme GT Neo has a 64MP triple camera system.

Pixel 5a

Pixel 5a is expected to launch at I/O 2021 that is scheduled to kick off on May 18th. The handset will have 5G connectivity and the latest Android 12 Developer’s Preview suggested it will ship with Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC. It is said to come with a 6.2-inch FHD+ display, 128GB storage, and run Android 12. While the optic details are unknown, it is said to feature dual cameras on the back. The leaked render showed off a punch-hole cutout on the front, a white accented power button and a square camera module.

iQOO Z3

iQOO Z3 had recently received BIS certification, which suggested the India launch could be imminent. iQOO Z3 flaunts a 6.58-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2408× 1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by the Snapdragon 768G SoC paired with Adreno 620 GPU, up to 8GB LPDDR4x RAM, and 256 UFS 2.2 storage. The phone boots Android 11-based iQOO UI 1.0 custom skin on top and packs a 4,400mAh battery with 55W fast charging fuels the phone. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. The iQOO Z3 has a quad-camera setup at the back with a 64MP (f/1.79 aperture) Samsung ISOCELL GW3 primary sensor with LED flash and EIS, an 8MP (f/2.2 aperture) ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP (f/2.4 aperture) depth sensor. It has a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video chats.

POCO M3 Pro

POCO M3 Pro is expected to be a mid-range offering from the brand and it has already received BIS certification in India. It is said to be a rebrand of the Redmi Note 10 5G that debuted back in March, meaning the phone could be the first 5G enabled POCO phone in India. It sports a 6.5-inch FHD+ LCD display with a punch-hole camera, 1100 nits brightness, and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone will be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC paired with Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, 4GB RAM, and 128GB UFS 2.2 internal storage that is further expandable via a microSD card.

The phone runs on Android 11-based MIUI 12 and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support. The Redmi Note 10 5G has triple rear cameras at the back, with a 48MP primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro lens. It has an 8MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security

Redmi Note 10S

Redmi Note 10S originally launched in March in global markets. Xiaomi India head, Manu Kumar Jain earlier today has teased the phone’s India launch. The handset sports a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a centre-positioned punch-hole cutout, 20:9 aspect ratio, 1100 nits brightness, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and standard 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the MediaTek Helio G95 SoC paired with Mali-G76 3EEMC4 GPU, up to 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage that is expandable via a microSD card up to 512GB.

Redmi Note 10S runs on Android 11-based MIUI 12 and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. The phone has quad rear cameras at the back with a 48MP Sony IMX582 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with a 118-degree field of view, and a couple of 2MP sensors for macro and depth shots. There is a 13MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

Moto G100

Moto G100 is the company’s premium flagship and was launched globally last month. The phone is expected to launch in India sometime later this month. The Moto G100 sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 2520× 1080 pixels resolution, dual punch-hole cutouts, and HDR10. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC paired with Adreno 650 GPU GPU, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage that is further expandable via microSD card.

Moto G100 ships with Android 11 out of the box and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 20W turbo charging. It has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security and a dedicated Google Assistant button. Moto G100 has a quad-camera setup at the back with a 64MP primary sensor with PDAF and LED flash, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 117-degree field of view, a 2MP depth lens, and aTOF advanced laser autofocus. There is a 16MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 118-degree field of view on the front.

POCO F3 GT

Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition launched in China earlier this week and is the fourth addition in the K40 series. The handset is also the first gaming phone from the brand and is expected to launch in India as POCO F3 GT. It sports a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 480Hz touch sampling rate, HDR10+, and 1.8mm bezels on three sides. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage that is further expandable via a microSD card.

The phone runs Android 11-based MIUI 12 custom skin out of the box. A 5,065mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging support fuels the phone. The Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition has a triple camera setup at the back with a 64MP primary sensor, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro lens. There is a 16MP camera on the front for selfies and video chats and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security.

Samsung Galaxy M32

Samsung Galaxy M32 is expected to launch in India as it has received the BIS certification. It has also appeared on the Geekbench and DEKRA platforms. It will arrive as a successor to the Galaxy M31 from last year. The Samsung Galaxy M32 will be a 4G enabled device and be powered by the MediaTek Helio G80 SoC. The phone packs 6GB RAM and runs on Android 11 OS with OneUI custom skin on top.

ASUS Zenfone 8 series

The ASUS ZenFone 8 series is confirmed to launch on May 12th and the lineup may include a total of three models: ASUS ZenFone 8 Mini, ZenFone 8 and ZenFone 8 Pro. All the models are expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC. According to rumours, the ZenFone 8 mini will sport a 5.9-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It is said to get a revolving 64MP camera setup on the back. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the ZenFone 8 series at the moment.

OPPO K9

OPPO K9 is confirmed to launch on May 6th in China. The phone is confirmed to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G SoC paired with Adreno 620 GPU, 65W fast-charging support and a 64MP triple camera setup. The phone is expected to come with a 6.43-inch AMOLED display and a 4,200mAh battery. The phone will come in two colours: while one has a gradient colour pattern on the back, the second one has a dark blue finish. The OPPO K9 will be available in 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB storage configurations.

Mi Mix Fold

Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold is the company’s first foldable phone and was launched in China last month and is expected to launch globally soon. It comes with a design that is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold2 with a primary foldable display inside and a secondary screen on the cover. The global and Indian variants of the Mi MIX Fold with model number M2011J18G have been registered on the IMEI database. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold sports an 8.01-inch flexible OLED internal screen with a 60Hz refresh rate and a 6.52-inch AMOLED cover display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 2520×840 resolution. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset coupled with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage.The phone runs on Android 11 with MIUI 12 on top. The Mi MIX Fold features a 108MP primary sensor, a 13MP wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto liquid lens with 30x zoom support, and an 8MP macro lens. There is a 20MP snapper on the front. A 5,020mAh battery with 67W fast charging support fuels the phone.
