Five years after we laid eyes on Volkswagen’s bold and funky ID.Buzz concept, the German brand has finally put its money where its mouth is and unveiled the production version. This is the Volkswagen ID. Buzz electric minibus, and its commercial counterpart, the ID. Buzz Cargo van.
The modern interpretation of the iconic Type 2 Microbus from the 1950s features the brand’s badge on its nose, a swept-back windscreen, short overhangs at the front and rear, plus smooth surfacing and body lines, coupled with slim LED headlights and tail-lights and a perforated front bumper.
These cues are taken from the other models in the Volkswagen’s ID. range of electric cars; this currently includes the ID.3 hatchback, ID.4 SUV and the ID.5 coupe-SUV. A Passat-sized hatchback and estate based on the ID.Vizzion concept has also been spied testing and is expected to join the ID. family very soon.
At launch, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo will come in ‘Pro’ specification, with both models making their debuts this year. An entry-level ‘Pure’ version will arrive at a later date with a smaller battery, but details regarding the base model remain under wraps.
