1. Honda City hybrid
Expected starting price- Rs. 16 lakh
Honda Cars India will launch the City hybrid in India around mid-2022. It will be identical to the regular City sedan (new-gen model), but will be powered by a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine (98 PS), paired with an electric motor (109 PS). This would be the first mass-market strong hybrid car to go on sale in our market, and with an expected fuel efficiency of 20 kmpl, it will likely be the most economical sedan in India as well.
2. Mahindra eXUV300 (or XUV400)
Expected starting price- Rs. 16 lakh
Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to introduce the electric version of the XUV300 in India soon, likely around late-2022 or early-2023. It is speculated to be named either eXUV300 or XUV400, and it will likely be offered in two variants, powered by 350V and 380V powertrains. The 350V version will be a rival to Tata Nexon EV, while the 380V version would compete with Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV.
3. New Hyundai Elantra
Expected starting price- Rs. 16 lakh
Last year, Hyundai globally unveiled the new-generation Elantra, but the updated version is yet to arrive in the Indian market. The new-gen version sports a more aggressive and eye-catchy design, and it gets plenty more equipment as well. We expect the next-gen Hyundai Elantra to launch in India sometime during the next year, and it might get electrified powertrain options as well.
4. Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo
Expected starting price- Rs. 19 lakh
Although not a new model, strictly speaking, the ‘Monte Carlo’ Edition of the Skoda Kushaq is worthy of notice. It will be the top-spec version of the SUV, and thus, it will get more premium features than the existing variants (panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, updated headliner expected). It is expected to be available with a 1.5L turbo-petrol motor (150 PS/250 Nm), likely with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearbox options.
5. Kia Carens
Expected starting price: Rs. 15 lakh
Kia is all set to launch the Carens in the Indian market on January 14. The MPV will be available with three engine options – a 1.5L NA petrol unit (115 PS/144 Nm), a 1.4L turbo-petrol unit (140 PS/242 Nm), and a 1.5L turbo-diesel unit (115 PS/250 Nm). Transmission choices here will include a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT, and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic, depending on the chosen variant.
6. Maruti Vitara
Expected starting price: Rs. 10 lakh
Maruti Suzuki is working on a midsize SUV for the Indian market, as a replacement for the S-Cross. As per speculations, this new model will be named ‘Vitara’, and it is being developed in partnership with Toyota. It is expected to be underpinned by the DNGA platform, and it will draw power from an electrified 1.5L NA petrol engine.
7. New Toyota midsize SUV
Expected starting price: Rs. 11 lakh
Toyota will also launch the midsize SUV it’s developing with Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market. It will have similar styling as Maruti’s version, with a few minor differences to the styling. It will be mechanically identical to the forthcoming Maruti midsize SUV, powered by the same 1.5L NA petrol powertrain (with mild-hybrid, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid system).
8. New Honda midsize SUV
Expected starting price: Rs. 11 lakh
Honda is also planning to enter the midsize SUV segment in the Indian market very soon. Its upcoming offering is expected to be based on the ‘RS’ concept, which was showcased at the GIIAS 2021. The SUV will be based on the same platform as the new-gen Honda City, and will likely get the same 1.5L NA petrol and 1.5L turbo-diesel engine options as it.
9. Tata Blackbird
Expected starting price: Rs. 10 lakh
Tata Motors is planning to add a Creta-rivalling midsize SUV to its range in India. This new SUV will be based on an altered version of Nexon’s platform. It is speculated to be powered by a new 1.5L turbo-petrol engine that is currently in development, and will likely have a 1.5L turbo-diesel engine option on offer as well. This upcoming Tata midsize SUV will get a purely-electric powertrain as well.
10. New-gen Mahindra Scorpio
Expected starting price: Rs. 13 lakh
Mahindra & Mahindra will finally launch the next-generation Scorpio in the Indian market this year. The new model will go on sale alongside the current-gen model, and will be larger as well as better equipped than it. The manufacturer will likely offer two engine options on the next-gen Scorpio – a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel.
